That would be great if I had time to teach it, but that's a full semester or more, which I don't have. Inventor HSM is near the other end of the spectrum, and requires students to know many different machining strategies. It just works (when you don't need a 4th axis). It's not efficient code, but that's not a big deal to us.

You just draw your part and V-Carve Pro just makes the code. V-carve Pro is amazing for students who don't fully understand machining processes and only need 2.5D parts, which is most of what we do.

The reality is that I'm finding it difficult to generate the G code to make it work.Ĭurrently we use two pieces of software: V-Carve Pro and Autodesk Inventor HSM. In my head I was envisioning my students designing things like custom gun stocks from walnut and radio controlled airplane fuselages out of foam, and things like that. We have a ShopBot CNC router to which we recently added a 4th axis rotary indexer aligned with the Y axis.
